3 Ways To Train Your Mind To Think Positively

At this point, we’ve all read, seen, and heard tons of content on the internet and social media that talks about the importance of thinking positive. If the discussion revolves around changing your life, the law of attraction, or manifesting what you want - it’s almost a guarantee that positive thinking is going to come up as a vital step. It's no wonder everyone is talking about it. Thoughts are very powerful things, ya know, and now that people are waking up and learning how their thoughts play the biggest role in manifesting what's happening in their lives, there is a lot more interest in learning how to stop thinking about the negative things that you don’t want and the worse case scenarios.

So, this is what we are going to talk about today. But instead of giving you tips on how to stop thinking negatively, we are going to discuss how to train your mind to think positively. The first thing that I want to identify is the fact that our minds are conditioned at a very young age to identify circumstances that require caution and concern. We are taught to focus on limitations, concerns, and problems. We have been groomed to fear, worry, and doubt. But, these are the ways of thinking that manifest unwanted experiences. And 99% of you are not even aware (until now) that your brain has been wired to perceive negativity. Even the way people ask for something positive gets subconsciously enveloped in negative thoughts. Don’t believe me? Here’s an example. - The most common DM and email that I get from Queens is “How do I stop thinking negative thoughts?” - The way that this question is phrased tells me that they are focusing on how to stop something that they don’t want. Trying to figure out how to stop what you don’t want IS leading with the negative. Remember, we attract what we focus on. So, if the focus is how to stop a negative thought, you will continue to attract “negative thought”. Instead of trying to learn how to stop thinking about what you don’t want, aspire to learn how to think about what you do want. Rephrase the question this way, “How do I start thinking positive thoughts?” - this places your focus on “positive thoughts”, which is what you want. The key is training your mind to think about what you want as opposed to the subconsciously trained way of thinking about what we don’t want. So, here are 3 ways to train your mind to think positively.

  1. Engage in positive mind exercises. This would be activities like reading self help books or blogs, listening to inspirational and motivational YouTube videos or podcasts, talking to and about positive people and uplifting topics. Engaging your mind in positive things is something that you will need to do intentionally. Remember, I always tell you Queens that most of the things that will naturally come across your tv screen, social media feed, and radio will be riddled with fear and negative news and conversations and that’s why it's so challenging to stay positive in our environment. So, to start training your mind to get accustomed to hearing, seeing, and ultimately experiencing more positive things you have to get it in the habit of engaging in positive content everyday.

  2. Start a gratitude journal. You all are probably tired of hearing me talk about gratitude and journaling LOL. But, I’ll never stop suggesting this powerful exercise. If you’ve listened to the All Queens Army Podcast and heard my story, you’ll know that my life was a mess about 7 years ago. And journaling is what helped me claw my way out of misery and into happiness. The gratitude journal exercise is the practice of writing down things that you are thankful for. Most people who use this strategy write in their journal everyday (I recommend everyday journaling too because the more frequently you focus on the positive things in your life, the more potential for positive manifestation and experiences you want). Getting in the habit of writing what you are thankful for shifts your mind to think of the wonderful aspects of your life and how blessed you truly are. It allows you to practice raising your vibration and experience how it feels to vibrate in a higher frequency (if you don’t know what the hell I’m talking about when I say vibration and frequency, I have pdf docs and a video library in my private page of life hacks that will explain it, you can access it here). One thing I can guarantee, once you see how it feels to emerged in positive thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and experiences - you will become obsessed with discovering and participating in more activities that bring on these good vibes. It literally feels like heaven on earth.

  3. Read positive affirmations - daily. So, I wrote a whole other blog article specifically about the power of affirmations. You can read it here. In short summary, a positive affirmation is a statement that you read to yourself (preferably out loud) to reaffirm something about yourself or in your life that you want to change the way you think or feel about. For example, one of the things that I wanted to change my mindset about was getting over self doubt regarding starting my business. So, the affirmations that I wrote were things like, “I am smart and capable of running a successful business.” and “Success and achievement flows to me with ease.”

To practice affirmations, the first thing you will want to do is write your affirmation sentences. If you need help creating your personalized affirmation statements, you can download a list of affirmations in the private page of life hacks here. Next, place them somewhere that you look at every day like your bathroom mirror or your nightstand or maybe even on your desk. Next, read them out loud to yourself once a day.

Affirmations work to retrain your brain because you are allowing your mind to hear yourself tell yourself positive things about… yourself LOL. Your mind believes and manifests everything that you tell it, so practice affirmations to tell it how great you are, how capable you are, how beautiful you are, how worthy you are, how successful you are, how… you get the point. :)

Queens, please be sure to make the time to retrain your mind. Do not allow it to feast on all of the negativity and fear that is of this world. Shift your focus to the things that make you feel good. Allow your mind to chew on information and content that raises your vibration, gives you hope, reaffirms your greatness!

Love ya, Queens!
