What To Do When Life Is Kicking Your Ass

Have you ever gone through a period in your life when everyyyy thinggg seems to go wrong? Like, nothing is working out in your favor and everything you try to do fails?
Ever felt like even the small things that are generally easy for you to do and accomplish feel super challenging, annoying, and chuck full of roadblocks?
Well, I recently went through a period just like that. For about 3 months I experienced problem after problem. It almost felt like I was surrounded by 4 invisible walls, and no matter which direction I tried to take, I was blocked. My emails were going unanswered, orders were delayed or never processed, disagreements with coworkers and family members, missed deadlines, car trouble, business setbacks, computer/system outages - you name it, and it went wrong!
I started to feel like there was something going on in the universe that was causing my decisions, actions, tasks, and activities not to sync up with my desired and expected outcomes. Some people say things like “mercury must be in retrograde” (if you know anything about astrology you’ll know exactly what this means). I don’t know if it was mercury’s retrograde, but I for sure felt like life was kicking my ass.
Then, something interesting happened.
As I sat back and thought about the things that I was trying to do that just weren’t working out, and the effort that I was putting in that was getting me nowhere; I recalled from past experiences that when this happens, it usually means that the universe is trying to get me to slow down, re-center, and get in tune with my higher self. So, I decided to do some self reflection because I realized that there was something in my life that I needed to pay attention to (or learn, or change, or evolve).
Through self reflection I discovered that I was moving in fear. My faith had been rattled by some minor inconveniences which caused the decisions that I was making, the plans I was attempting to put in place, and the work that I was doing to be wrought with fear, doubt, and insecurity. These are all low vibrational energy vibes that I had detached from a few years ago, but in my imperfection and continued evolution, I retracted back to that fear when things in my life appeared (on the surface) to be heading for disaster. In times of panic, uncertainty, or just when it looks like things are not going to work out; my involuntary response is fear and an attempt to take action to control the outcome… and the universe was giving me another opportunity to resolve that response.
The thought or feeling that life is kicking your ass is all about perspective. If you see the ass kicking as ASS KICKING, you will experience that period of time as negative, unpleasant, inconvenient, frustrating, roadblocking, and eventually you will victimize yourself (kinda like I did at first lol). But, if you see the ass kicking as an opportunity, you’ll recognize what you need to work on, change, or improve and you can choose to evolve and propel your life to unimaginable heights.
If you remain in a perspective that the ass kicking is a negative experience, you will stay stagnant in that part of your life. Negative experiences create negative thoughts, negative emotions, negative energy, and ultimately negative outcomes. This is the recipe to manifest all the shit that you say you don’t want.
Shifting your perspective to see the ass kicking as an opportunity can alter your experience in a very positive way. You can avoid the feelings of anxiety, helplessness, defeat, or disappointment. You can feel empowered, optimistic, and encouraged.
So, how do you turn your ass kicking period into a beneficial experience?
My suggestion (this is what I did during that 3 month period that I described above) is to get curious. When you are curious, you begin asking questions and searching for the lesson you are supposed to learn from the ass kicking events. You start asking “why” what you are going through is happening. Now keep in mind, when you ask, the universe WILL respond, so start paying attention. Pay attention to the things people say that stand out. Pay attention to the synchronicities that pop up (synchronicities are events that feel/look like coincidences, things that just line up perfectly for a certain thing to happen). Pay attention to your dreams and gut feelings. Most importantly, get in sync with your higher self. This can be done by doing a self reflection exercise or meditation. - These are all ways that the universe communicates with you, so be observant.
So, there you have it. An uncomplicated approach to relieve your pain caused from life roughing you up. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but for you, it can prevent feeling defeated, pessimistic, and anxious. Try it. I sure did… and I learned a valuable lesson (again) that propelled my life in a positive direction. I am sure curiosity can do the same for you.
Remember, you can not control the kicks in the ass that life occasionally throws at you, but you can certainly control how you feel about them, what you learn from them, and what you do about them.
